About: PR gal in my twenties. As soon as I figured out what I wanted to be when I grew up it became obsolete. Instead of writing for a newspaper I get to write here. My job is exciting and wonderful but exhausting at times, and when I do have the energy to remove my rear from the couch, I enjoy drinking all the wines, shopping for thousands of identical cardigans and striped items, cheering for the Alabama Crimson Tide, chasing after my insane English Bulldog, Denny, singing and dancing along with the Avett Brothers, and having as much fun as possible with my friends and family. Sometimes I think about exercising. And then I grab a bag of chips.

Budgeting - I think I’m doing it wrong

I made a point today to set up a monthly budget for this year. January’s already pretty much a wash due to New Orleans this weekend, but I’m going to see if pulling out cash for certain categories will be helpful from now on. A few items of note:

In the end I have about $16 unbudgeted (I would have had more, but I forgot about the dang Netflix!) Is that normal? Should I have more unbudgeted money? Or should it all be in little categories and then I can move it around later if things aren’t working right?

Also, when you have a lot of money in your savings account, is it possible to blow some of it on a fancy pants purse or something without your car immediately breaking down afterwards?
