January 2012
answers needed to burning questions.
Those of you who have experience with a personal trainer, what are your thoughts on them? I don’t have a ton of cashish to throw around, but I was thinking about going a few times to get some direction on my workout plan. Half hour sessions? Full hour sessions? 4 times? More times?
When should you start using eye creams? When you’re 12? When you’re 42? If you use them, what do...
Tuesday
I am in a chipper mood today, and that doesn’t always happen on a Tuesday, so I’ll take it!
Possible reasons why:
I was up all night for the second night in a row coughing (which would make any day rough) and felt like crap this morning because of it, so I took a half day and slept in a bit. I feel 1,000% better and refreshed. Also, the work day is flying by.
After sleeping in, I...
Fingers crossed.
Good vibes please!

Monday Check In
obsessing over… why i thought my tax return would be literally 20x more than it appears to be. (so much for buying a wedding dress with it, maybe i can afford the garter?) also, everything to do with mount everest after blake and i spent the weekend watching every show and documentary on netflix about climbing to the summit.
working on… motivating myself to do one of my least favorite work...
A good Friday
- 64 degrees at 5:30 pm (welcome to Alabama in January)
- I left work before it was 100% dark outside!
- Just picked up my $12 big bottle of wine (becoming a weekly tradition)
- Sister is on her way with Davenports pizza
- It’s the freakin’ weekend and I just heard J Lo’s Love Don’t Cost a Thing.
Tonight has been good.
Gym for the second night in a row. Good sweat. Finally ran by ATM. Lean cuisine for dinner ( not the most healthy, but at least it wasn’t 700 calories.) Got cleaned up. Washed face with Olay spinning brush thing (if I love this thing so much I have no clue how much I’d adore a Clarisonic.) Leggings and a big t. Chatted with Sister (hellur!) Three books & three magazines for...
Can someone come dry/blow out my hair every morning? I was thinking the reason all the other girls’ hair in my department looked so much better than mine is that they get it cut more than twice a year and have someone color it that is not themselves with a box of John Frieda foaming hair dye, but I’m starting to think my routine of washing/letting it air dry/use virtually zero products...
Pay $5 for $20 at Overstock.com!
If you’re not already a member of Tippr (which I just heard of this morning) then you can click through this link (alert: personal referral link, but also the only way to get you the moolah) and get a $5 credit to the site. They have a deal for $10 for $20 at Overstock.com, so you can get the deal for just $5 after the credit! I’m already itching to see what I want to order.
I'm gonna make it mine. Yes I, I'll own it.: John... →

Dear Thom:
We had your letter this morning. I will answer it from my point of view and of course Elaine will from hers.
First — if you are in love — that’s a good thing — that’s about the best thing that can happen to anyone. Don’t let anyone…
Monday was for...
Waking up bright and early to head to the Superdome and pick up our tickets, grabbing some lunch (interestingly enough, with the guy who was basically responsible for Blake and I going to our first date party together,) putting on our Alabama swag and hitting the streets, daiquiris and beers and hand grenades and hurricanes, being called tiger bait so many times I thought I’d changed my...
Sunday was for...
Recovering, relaxing, destroying some Popeyes (in a city full of some of the best food in the South, this still ranks pretty high up there for me,) more time at the casino, begging for cash to waste on the 100 Pandas slot machine, a late dinner at Ralph and Kacoos, some rain to cool things down, yet another long walk back to the hotel (we probably walked over 10 miles over the course of the...
Saturday night was for...
A quick change into a Tumblr approved sweater (in red for the Tide,) a hike back up to the streetcar, a short wait before riding to the end of the line to City Park, a search for the Peristyle, a little history lesson for me, some slow dancing to quiet humming, someone getting down on one knee, the very happiest kind of shock, and some time spent hugging and smiling and staring at my left hand...
Saturday morning was for...
Sleeping in, lunch at Camellia Grill with some recovery french fries, sitting by the river with beers and enjoying the 75 degree weather, some trickiness from Blake, and a walk back to the hotel in the sprinkling rain before changing and heading to the street car
Friday night was for...
Heading down to Frenchmen St to listen to Kermit Ruffins play some great jazz music, dancing around, the first of MANY hurricanes of the weekend while posting up on the Pat O’s patio, and the first of many LONG walks back to our hotel at 3 am.

Budgeting - I think I'm doing it wrong
I made a point today to set up a monthly budget for this year. January’s already pretty much a wash due to New Orleans this weekend, but I’m going to see if pulling out cash for certain categories will be helpful from now on. A few items of note:
I have an entire line item on my budget for wine. Is this normal?
Is it okay if the “savings” part of your budget is a bit...
Book advice?
I’m having the hardest time choosing what books to get with my Amazon gift card. I thought about grabbing some household things I have rattling around my wish list, but I decided those can wait until next paycheck. Does anyone have any opinions on the following:
Walter Isaacson’s Steve Jobs
Mindy Kaling’s Is Everyone Hanging Out Without Me? (And Other Concerns)
Gretchen...

December 2011
2011 - I'm still undecided on you.
This year had it’s fair share of ups and downs for sure.
January
Returned from my first trip to Orlando and Disney World!
Started planning a trip to Jazz Fest.

Crowdsourcing my higher education
I’ve really been thinking about making a transition into non-profit work in the future for a while. I haven’t had a lot of a success with job openings in the field I’d love, though. I don’t know if I can make the time and financial commitment to getting my master’s in public administration before I actually work in the field for a few years, but I do think I need to...
